Almost All Travel Restrictions Eased in Thailand – On the Road to Tourism Recovery

Following the reopening of its international borders, Thailand has been reducing its entry requirements and most of them have now been done away with. As of 1st July 2022, fully vaccinated foreign tourists need to only show proof of an accepted vaccination; meanwhile, not fully or unvaccinated travellers must show a negative result of a professional ATK, or RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours of embarkation. Once one of these is submitted on arrival, tourists are free to go where they choose, while the previous mandatory Thailand Pass application and health insurance requirement have been lifted as well.

To further encourage visitors, the Thai government launched its 10-year “golden visa” scheme on 1st September this year; this was done to draw wealthy digital nomads as well as those employed in the tech sectors or categorised as “Work-From-Thailand Professionals”. Most of the applicants for this long-term residence visa programme are expected to be Europeans who can enjoy many benefits from this initiative too.
