As a result of a partnership between Hon John Amaratunga, Minister for Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, and Bryce Hutcheeson, the Australian High Commissioner, the Market Development Facility will be launched. This is set to provide a total of a billion rupees in grants and development services over the course of four years. This venture is proposed to result in many more jobs in the private sector, especially in regards to tourism. Once these new projects are developed, there’s sure to be a lot more happening on the island’s tourism-centric locales, resulting in many more things to do in Bentota. There will also be many more resorts and hotels developed such as Shinagawa Beach, further increasing the range of accommodation offered on the island. Additionally, the MDF will also bear a strong focus on locally manufactured goods and digital services related to Sri Lankan tourism industry. In general, this facility will surely be of great benefit to the nation’s economy.
