Bask in the mind boggling beauty of the Vesak celebrations in Sri Lanka – The nation that celebrates Vesak at its best!

Vesak or Vesak Poya is one of the main festivals celebrated by Buddhists in Sri Lanka. This day is of great historical and religious significance as it commemorates the birth, attaining of enlightenment and passing of Lord Buddha. Colourful lanterns made out of bamboo, papers and bright lights adorn almost every household and street Pandols with bright displays too brighten up the streets as they convey the story of the three stages of Lord Buddha. During Vesak, pilgrims dressed fully in white fill temples, offering prayers and flowers to Lord Buddha. Guests staying at beach hotels in Sri Lanka such as the Amagi Hotels and Resorts also get the chance to witness this breath taking beauty of Vesak celebrations that are pretty unique to each and every region within the country. The Vesak Poya takes place on the month of May, with celebrations almost lasting for a week.
