Referred as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, the Sigiriya Fortress is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Sri Lanka due to its significant archaeological importance. The Central Cultural Fund in Sri Lanka has drawn towards introducing a cable car service at the Sigiriya Fortress for the convenience of tourists as well as local travellers. This massive project will be implemented in collaboration with Chinese experts. It was initially proposed in 2002 and could not be implemented until now due to many objections from the environmentalists. Therefore, this year it will be introduced without causing any harm to the magnificent site of Sigiriya. Due to the popularity of this historical place as a top tourist attraction, there’s many a Sigiriya hotel situated close by, such as Water Garden Sigiriya.
