Thailand is to ban smoking on up to 20 beaches across the country including Hua Hin, Patong. Pattaya, Khao Takiab after 138,000 cigarette butts were found on the beaches over a 2.5km stretch of the most popular Patong beach in Phuket.
All those who are planning to visit this country and stay in beachfront luxury hotels in Phuket the likes of Anantara Layan Phuket Resort should be mindful of this law. After retrieving tens of thousands of cigarette butts left in the sand by Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources is introduced this smoking ban on the 1st of November and the penalty of violating the law is up to one year in prison or a 100,000 baht fine, or both.
