You can visit Chumbe Island in Tanzania to witness the largest land crab in the world. The coconut crabs eat fleshy fruit and prey on smaller crabs. When at The Residence Zanzibar by Cenizaro or any other Zanzibar beach resort, if you’re interested then you can look forward to spotting these humongous crabs.
The crab season ends in March, therefore, it’s best to hurry! The season in which these crabs are most visible is from June to March. Coconut crabs have evolved to live on land, only visiting the sea to lay eggs. When these crabs are on land, they live in underground holes made with the fibres from coconut husks. Adult coconut crabs can reach up to one meter in total length.
