Discussions to formulate new health guidelines to promote tourism industry – Plans for the future

Sri Lanka’s booming tourism industry also took a hit just like the entire world did in 2020 when the pandemic hit. Since the country opened up to tourism this year on the 12th of January, the government has been looking into how the sector can be brought back to life again.

Since the ban was lifted, Sri Lanka has seen about 6000 tourist arrivals in the country. The stats record that most tourists now coming to Sri Lanka are on the lookout for Ayurvedic treatment. Therefore, the government is looking into making this more accessible for tourists. The country has not planned on another lockdown as yet, therefore Polonnaruwa hotels the likes of Hotel Sudu Araliya are still open and accepting guests for stays. Internal travel also seems to be picking up in the past few months.
