Dr Parakrama Dissanayake Receives the Lifetime Chartered Shipbroker’s, UK Medal

The co-chairman of CINEC, and a renowned professor in Maritime Studies at Shanghai Maritime College, Dr Parakrama Dissanayake was recently awarded the Lifetime Chartered Shipbroker’s UK Medal. The institute was founded in 1911, and the award was introduced in 1920.

Dr Dissanayake was the pioneer in commercial maritime education on the island, and he was the first non-British person to be appointed International President of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. As a professional in the industry, he has authored many articles on Maritime and Logistics and became the chairman of the Ports Authority in Sri Lanka as the first industry professional to hold the position. He has held many other positions in organisations such as Shipping and Southern Development, the Sri Lanka transport board, and Ceylon Shipping Corporation.
