Fully Opened Maldives on Track for Recovery – Arrivals Continue Steadily

Amongst the most remarkable success stories in tourism since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Maldives remains opened to tourists who can look forward to quarantine-free holidays. Having reopened its borders in July 2020, the country has seen a steady increase in arrivals as travellers around the world seek some safe fun in the sun, sand and surf. By the early part of June 2021, 469,942 tourists had arrived in the Maldives, while the government is targeting to achieve a total of 1.5 million arrivals by year’s end.

As of the beginning of June this year, the top tourism source market for the country was Russia, followed by India, Germany and Ukraine. Such travellers have the option of staying at 5-star hotels in Maldives located on private islands; these properties including SAii Lagoon Maldives feature enhanced sanitisation protocols and comprehensive cleaning measures to ensure a safe stay for guests.
