Galungan and Kuningan in Bali

One of the most memorable and iconic festival seasons in Bali are Galungan and Kuningan. The festivities begin on Galungan, which is believed to be the day that Evil was defeated by Good according to Balinese mythology, and these festivities continue up till Kuningan which is an associated observance that brings about the end of the festivities.
The celebrations attract various people from all over the region to visit the various temples with their families and loved ones, bringing a fair influx of tourism which is most beneficial for notable luxurious institutes such as COMO Shambhala, a popular Bali Spa Resort.

The festivities consist of various activities and decorations, but the staple events that generally take place are the massive communal feasts featuring endless portions of pork and rice cakes. Majestically decorated bamboo poles are also erected to contain rice, fruit, coconuts and coconut leaves and serve as decorative items whose design and implementation is the responsibility of the men of the house. Once Kuningan, the end of the festival comes around, special offerings of yellow turmeric rice are made.
