Phuket’s largest temple fair, the annual Wat Chalong Fair is set to take place soon. Spanning seven days, this well-known cultural event is held to coincide with the Chinese New Year which this year, falls on 10th February 2024. Wat Chalong remains one of the key sacred sites on this Thai island and can be visited from beach hotels like Jono X Phuket Karon. Those heading to the temple during the fair can look forward to a lively atmosphere with plenty of captivating sights and culinary offerings.
One of the best things to do in Phuket during this time is to wander around the illuminated grounds of the fair at night; you will come across vendors selling all manner of items along with plenty of snacks and sweets. Visitors can also enjoy traditional music, performances by Thai folk singers and puppeteers and a variety of fun games, while there is generally a playground area for kids as well. Apart from the festive fun, one can also experience a more serene atmosphere at the main temple where devotees come to offer prayers and light candles and incense.
