Highlighting Sri Lanka’s Wildlife Conservation – The Need of the Hour

As part of the Wildlife & Nature Protection Society’s (WNPS) 125th anniversary celebrations, a special series of presentations were hosted under the topic “where is wildlife conservation in Sri Lanka today?” It took place on 16th May 2019 at the Jasmine Hall of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). There were four experts who presented at the event; Rukshan Jayewardene who spoke about the conservation of leopards, Dr. Nishan Perera on marine conservation, Dr. Sampath Seneviratne on bird conservation and Dr. Prithiviraj Fernando on the human-elephant conflict. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya.

The country is blessed with a rich biodiversity and the conservation of its flora and fauna is vital for maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. Those looking to experience this natural beauty have the option of embarking on camping tours in Sri Lanka offered by adventure tour specialists such as Nature Odyssey which offer more insights into local wildlife.
