Increasing urbanisation and its impact on metropolitan cities- Developing Sri Lanka
With the population increasing in Colombo by more than 1% every year, urbanisation has been one of the most talked upon subjects in the country. Many major companies such as John Keells Properties are making arrangements to address this matter by developing residential and commercial properties in urban areas.

Experts highlight the need of providing these new dwellers enough of educational facilities and job opportunities, and the responsible authorities are working towards achieving this goal amidst many barriers. Since most people come to Colombo because of the convenience factor, currently many shopping malls in Colombo Sri Lanka also have started their expansions to provide upgraded lifestyles for the public. Since environmental pollution is one main negative impact of urbanisation, the authorities are also currently focused on reducing the harmful effects using various strategies.
