Special Colombo–Kandy Bus Service Rolled Out to Support Festive Travel
Making holiday journeys smoother for families across Sri Lanka
The Ministry of Transport and Highways has introduced a dedicated bus service connecting Colombo and Kandy to assist travellers during the New Year celebrations.
Deputy Minister Dr. Prasanna Gunasena confirmed that the service will commence tomorrow, offering a reliable alternative after train operations were affected by Cyclone Ditwah. Buses will depart from Bastian Mawatha Bus Station in Colombo, providing safe and convenient transport for holidaymakers.
Officials highlighted that the service could extend into the weekends beyond the festive period, guided by a revised timetable to accommodate ongoing demand.
The initiative is expected to benefit both residents and tourists, including those staying at prominent accommodations like Hunas Falls Hotel Kandy. With increased connectivity, the scheme reinforces the appeal of the region’s scenic routes and contributes to the growth of family hotels in Sri Lanka by making travel more accessible.
