The government of Johor had proposed two projects, one being an eco-entertainment park near Yayasan Pelajaran Johor campus in Kota Tinggi (costing RM2.7 billion) and the second being the world’s first science fiction theme park called Sci-Fi Universe (costing RM400 million). There is a rumor to say that these projects, that were to be implemented to bring in more tourists to the country will be cancelled.
The chairman of the Johor Women Development and Tourism Committee, Liow Cai Tung stated that the projects that have already been completed will not be removed. Also, that the pending projects had nothing to do with Johorean culture. The committee, at the moment, aims to focus on cultural and natural attractions in Johor Baru. Hotel occupancy rates in places like Berjaya Waterfront Hotel will not be affected significantly by this decision.
