Kalawewa National Park Named Sri Lanka’s Newest Wildlife Sanctuary

The Kalawewa National Park which is a lush grassland that provide animals especially elephants with fodder is a natural habitat in Sri Lanka. It is famous due to the two massive water tanks the Kalawewa reservoir and the Balaluwewa built by King Dhatusena who ruled the country in the fifth century constructed for the use of ancient agriculture. The national park has been now made into a wildlife sanctuary and will be the newest addition to Sri Lanka’s protected wildlife parks and sanctuaries. The tuskers of Kalawewa can now safely roam in their habitat and have a safe haven to live. The two tanks that are linked together were renovated recently in response to the many requests made to the government by environmentalists and as a result now hold water all year around which attracts wildlife to the area. Excursions can be arranged to this natural habitat when you stay at Aliya Resort & Spa, one of the nature and wildlife friendly resorts in Sri Lanka.
