Hosted between 14th to 18th January 2015, the Kalutara Chess Festival offered enthusiasts a chance to battle it out to be crowned chess champion at this event held in the South Coast of Sri Lanka. The festival took place at the National Institute of Health Sciences and travellers planning a trip to the region to visit similar such events held here or at other local venues can stay at a well placed Kalutara hotel Sri Lanka has to offer such as AVANI Kalutara Resort & Spa. With participation from the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and organized by the Kalutara Chess Club, this event was opened for all including international players. Dineth Nimnaka Naotunna of Sri Lanka emerged champion at the Kalutara Chess Festival which also awarded medals and cash prizes to the best players of each rating category as well.
