With the growing tourism in the country, the delicate ecosystems are in danger of pollution and damage. Koh Samui, Koh Tan and Koh Phangan in the Surat Thani province have decided to stand against ‘unfriendly activities’ to the environment. The marine and coastal protection plans will start in July and it is stated by the Chief of The Marine and Coastal Resources Department, Jatuporn Bhuruphat that the project will be in effect for two years.
It is seen that in Koh Phagan, 7,300 tonnes of waste is collected each year from shores. Some of the restrictions that will be imposed are a ban on feeding marine animals, no anchoring at a coral reef, no fishing, no building and so on. Some of the extra measures include buoys and moor boats to avoid anchoring. Tourists staying in Sunset Coast Samui Resort & Villas or any other Koh Samui resort and will have to be mindful of keeping the environment clean by avoiding throwing scraps and wrappers in random corners.
