Laos Prepares for Tourism Reopening – Laos-China Railway Also Set to Launch

The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in Laos was instructed by the government in July this year to prepare for reopening tourism when the situation allowed for international travel once more. Any reopening however would have to be under “new normal” conditions, while considering the pandemic situation at the time. The country also received a boost with the announcement that the Laos-China railway was on track to be completed this month with the official launch scheduled for 2nd December 2021; this will coincide with the Laos National Day.

This multibillion-dollar railway project will provide a convenient link from the town of Boten on the border with China to the Laos capital, Vientiane and is also expected to increase Chinese tourism to Luang Prabang; hotels in this ancient capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site such as Avani+ Luang Prabang feature stringent health and hygiene measures and fully vaccinated team members to ensure safe stays too.
