The Laos government is planning to reopen the country for international tourists under three phases. During the initial phase in January 2022, fully vaccinated tourists from specified countries can enter under special rules and regulations. 17 countries are included in the first phase, from the 1st of January 2022; most of these nations are from the Southeast Asian region and Europe. Apart from that Australia, Canada the USA, and China are allowed.
The government has also activated ‘Green Travel Trails’ and ‘Green Travel Zones’ in provinces where 70% of the adult population is fully vaccinated. In the first phase Luang Prabang, Vientiane Capital, and Vang Vieng are designated green travel zones. Unique experiences such as the Luang Prabang Cruise offered prior to the pandemic by Mekong Kingdoms are available again under health and safety protocols.
