October marked a milestone visit to the Maldivian islands for Visit Maldives Year 2016 when its one millionth visitor arrived at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport on an Air India flight. The lucky Indian lady, Alefiya Merchant, happened to be visiting the island on her honeymoon with her husband, Asgar Godhrawala.
Couples looking for a romantic getaway by the beach have breathtaking options, such as perhaps a private Maldives bungalow, like those offered by the Anantara Veli Maldives Resort.
The lucky couple was warmly welcomed by several dignitaries at the airport itself, such as the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, the deputy ministers of tourism and others. They were awarded a celebratory plaque as well as a complimentary holiday package. The visit now poses an excellent opportunity for promoting the Maldives to the Indian market.
