If you’re spending your vacation touring through Australia, be sure to enjoy a vintage train ride from Melbourne to Sydney while you’re there. The newly renovated Spirit of Progress made her first trip in over 33 years this past March. This train is among the oldest locomotives to operate in Australia and was first put into service in 1937. It was retired in 1986 due to newer, more efficient engines being introduced as well as the growing popularity of air travel. Now, however, the Spirit of Progress is back refurbished, boasting an upgraded engine while still retaining its vintage charm.
So, if you’re staying at an apartment hotel in Sydney, say for example the Oaks Sydney Castlereagh Suites, be sure to book passage on this wily old train. It’s sure to be an experience that will stick with you for years to come.
