A charming town along the south coast of Sri Lanka, Mirissa, is gaining more and more popularity amongst travellers. It is thus not surprising that it has been featured in international publications and ‘world’s best’ lists when it comes to coastal getaways. On 28th May 2026, it was the focal point of Mark Daffey’s opinion piece, “We quit our jobs and moved here for six months. I’ve never been more content,” published online by The Age, a well-known Australian newspaper. Reflecting on time previously spent in Mirissa, he highlighted the town’s laidback environment, reduced cost of living, uncrowded beach and genuine hospitality, which were enjoyed by him and his family.
What’s more, in February this year, Mirissa Beach was named amongst the “Best of the Best Beaches” in Asia as part of Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards 2026. Key aspects highlighted were this beach’s idyllic shores, clear waters, surfing opportunities, fresh seafood, and sunset views from Coconut Tree Hill. No doubt, in Mirissa, beach hotels can expect more travellers in the months to come looking to enjoy the area’s many attractions. Properties like Sri Sharavi Beach Villas & Spa will continue to be an ideal choice for such tourists wanting to experience the best the island’s south coast has to offer.
