Tourist Arrivals to Sri Lanka in June Hit 124,551 – India The Top Source Market

In June 2026, Sri Lanka recorded a total of 124,551 international tourists, as per the figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). For the first six months of the year, the country’s total foreign arrivals stood at 1,146,573. While the totals for June and the first half of 2026 were less than in 2025, this can partly be attributed to the conflict situation in the Middle East, which has affected travel globally. When it came to the top source markets in June this year, neighbouring India came out on top with 43,423 arrivals, accounting for a 34.9% market share. Second place was the United Kingdom with 10,474 arrivals, followed by Australia with 8,710 visitors.

The popularity of this island nation is undeniable, and it is hoped that arrivals will pick up in the months to come. It should be noted that Sri Lanka’s commercial capital continues to be a popular destination for international travellers; from colonial sites, temples and shopping to enjoying multicultural dining and nightlife at a roof top bar in Colombo, there’s much to experience here. Amidst this backdrop, centrally located, lean luxury hotels like Cinnamon Red Colombo can expect more guests as tourist numbers increase.
