In a novel initiative that provided a nutritious and healthy start to the day, Mount Lavinia Hotel distributed herbal drinks to more than 500 commuters at the Mount Lavinia Railway Station. The project by this well known hotel Colombo has to offer those in search of beachside getaways, was held in part as a celebration of World Food Day which fell in October. The herbal drink which is locally referred to as “kola kenda” is a traditional porridge type beverage that is typically drunk in the mornings and is known for its health and nutritional benefits. Prepared under the supervision of the hotel’s reputed Chef Publis, the drink was distributed to a wide cross section of commuters that frequent the railway station in Mount Lavinia including students, parents, office workers and vendors. Provided as something that the public could enjoy ‘on their way to work’, this project was part of the hotel’s initiatives that focus on community upliftment and wellbeing.
