Myanmar To Offer Visa On Arrival To Indian & Chinese Tourists

In a bid to revitalize its tourism sector, Myanmar has announced a landmark decision to offer visas on arrival to Chinese and Indian tourists, as reported by the Global New Light of Myanmar. The one-year trial scheme, set to commence soon, aims to attract foreign visitors and stimulate economic growth. Holders of these visas will have the freedom to explore all sites, excluding restricted areas due to security concerns.

The move comes at a challenging time for Myanmar, with the military junta facing opposition following the 2021 coup. Despite widespread conflict prompting advisories against travel from countries like the United States and Australia, Myanmar is strategically reaching out to its neighbours, China and India, to bolster tourism. The tourism ministry is also actively engaging with Russia, a key ally, to further diversify its visitor base. Myanmar, once a favoured destination for travellers, is taking bold steps to rekindle its allure and overcome the economic challenges exacerbated by the pandemic and political turmoil. 5-star hotels in Yangon the likes of PARKROYAL Yangon are more than prepared to welcome an influx of visitors, giving them the chance to experience the iconic city in its full glory.
