Every year, on the first of October, Hong Kong celebrates its National Day. This day makes the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1st, 1949 – however, in Hong Kong the celebrations only began in 1997, when the territory was handed over to China by the British.
There are several festivities to mark this special day, but the one thing you mustn’t miss is the fireworks over Victoria Harbour, 10 minutes from Dorsett Mongkok Hong Kong and several other hotels in Kowloon, Hong Kong. This holiday is a favourite among the Chinese, where they get a few days off – therefore you’ll have to make arrangements in advance if you plan on visiting during this time.
