New Mobile Registration Initiative Launched: Enhanced Support For Tourism Services In Sri Lanka

Early this November, the Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) partnered with the Sri Lankan Institute of Hotel Management (SLIHM) to introduce a newly minted mobile registration initiative. The service aims to ease the legal and systematic procedures behind licensing for tourism services across the island, and has already welcomed several users.

This initiative allows operators, including tour guides, guesthouses, homestays, and family hotels in Galle and beyond, to register directly through mobile units deployed across key regions. The system aims to enhance accessibility, reduce bureaucracy, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Ney players in the hospitality sector will benefit from a more streamlined process, joining the ranks of industry veterans like Araliya Beach Resort Unawatuna—the first 5-star hotel in the area.

The programme also provides hands-on support, including guidance on regulatory requirements and benefits of official registration, such as access to training workshops and financial incentives. This was followed by an introductory workshop in Hikkaduwa, as well as a formal training session on the 6th of November.
