On 6th October this year, the Maldives opened a new Code-F runway and seaplane terminal at its Velana International Airport. This landmark event was marked by a ceremony with the chief guest being the Hon. Faisal Naseem, the nation’s Vice President. Another significant occasion during this time was the inauguration of the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal at the airport which see all seaplane operations taking place under one roof providing more convenience for travellers. Apart from being a key moment in the country’s aviation history, it is set to further enhance tourism and develop the industry.
Seaplanes continue to be a vital transport option from the Velana International Airport to reach a luxury resort Maldives has to offer in atolls further away. These include properties like The Residence Maldives Dhigurah in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll; it can be reached on a scenic seaplane ride from the airport to Kooddoo followed by a short speedboat transfer to this island resort where one can experience the best of this destination.
