Oman celebrates its 53rd National Day – A long weekend holiday announced

Oman marked its 53rd National Day on November 18th, 2023, commemorating the country’s independence from Portuguese control. In light of the occasion, the government declared November 22nd and 23rd as official holidays for both public and private sector employees, providing a four-day long weekend due to Oman’s Sunday to Thursday work week.

The National Day celebrations were centred around a military parade at the Adam Air Base in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliya. The General Secretariat for National Celebrations announced that this year’s festivities were restrained, featuring a military parade and the raising of the Sultanate of Oman’s flags. The decision to limit the celebrations is attributed to the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis. This being said, Salalah hotels the likes of Al Baleed Resort Salalah still recorded a large number of visitors for the long weekend.

As Oman reflects on its journey to independence, the subdued but meaningful observance is a testament to the nation’s commitment to its history and the current global circumstances.
