Qatar is setting ambitious goals for its tourism industry, aiming for it to contribute 12% to the country’s GDP by 2030. This ambitious target is part of Qatar’s plan to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on oil and gas revenues.
The country is heavily investing in its hospitality sector to accommodate the expected surge in tourists. By the end of 2023, Qatar had over 36 hotel projects underway, translating to roughly 9,000 new rooms. This follows a period of significant growth in 2022, where Qatar’s hotel room supply grew to nearly 38,000. Despite the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup, Qatar continues to attract tourists, welcoming over 4 million visitors in 2023. The government is also supporting the tourism sector through various initiatives, such as the “Qatar Clean” program and the “Qatar National Vision 2030” plan. Qatar’s strategic location and advanced airport infrastructure further strengthen its position as a potential global tourism hub.
