Last month, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including the cosmopolitan emirate of Dubai, witnessed joyous celebrations of Eid al Adha as Muslim communities came together. Before this festival, Arafat Day, which marks a significant event in the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj was observed on 15th June 2024, prompting spiritual reflection and unity. It was followed by Eid al Adha, from 16th to 18th June 2024 which celebrates the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
The celebrations began with Eid prayers at homes and in mosques. Gift-giving and charitable donations are also traditions during this time, while families and communities enjoy grand feasts and cherished moments spent together.
Dubai’s Eid al Adha celebrations were a vibrant spectacle. The city buzzed with exciting activities, live music performances, and dazzling fireworks. Popular shopping destinations like Ibn Battuta Mall next to Avani Ibn Battuta Dubai Hotel added their own flair, offering immersive VR experiences, traditional Yola performances, and lively games for visitors.
For those who missed the festivities, the UAE’s calendar offers other significant religious celebrations to look forward to including Mawlid al-Nabi which falls on 15th September 2024. It marks the birthday of Prophet Muhammad and those based at a Dubai city hotel can enjoy seeing the streets come alive with vibrant decorations and illuminations, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
