Queen’s Birthday Celebrations

Long Live The Queen! There is one day in Thailand when this saying is said stronger than ever in the hearts of its people and that is on the 12th of August, the birthday of Queen Sirikit, Thailand’s reigning queen. She is adored by her people so much that this day was declared as Thailand’s National Mother’s Day. Queen Sirikit is the consort of Bhumibol Adulyadej, world’s longest-reigning head of state. The magnificent Grand Palace, located in Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, is the official residence and is a must-see attraction. Travelers looking for conveniently located Bangkok city hotels can consider the iconic AVANI Atrium Bangkok as an option as the hotel is located in the city centre just 30 minutes away from the Grand Palace.

On the birthday of the Great Queen Sirikit there is much celebration throughout the country and especially in Bangkok. Ceremonies, alms-giving and parades take place during daytime while at night all streets are decorated in candlelight and the skies are lit by fireworks. Everywhere in the city you will find posters of the Queen who is a much beloved figure among her people as she is renowned for her extensive charity work, including the work of the Thai Red Cross and numerous development projects throughout the country.
