Sri Lanka launched its historic ‘Sri Ramayan Trails’ project at the Taj Samudra, Colombo in April, in an initiative to strengthen the Indo-Sri Lanka cultural bond and thereby boost the island’s tourism.
The Sri Ramayan Trails is a guided tour highlighting nine significant sites across Sri Lanka that are part of the legendary Ramayana epic, each carefully selected to offer a spiritual and cultural journey that is meaningful for Hindu pilgrims and tourists. The project also leverages the powers of Artificial Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality to create an immersive experience that displays the specific spiritual events and stories associated with each site. This marks a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s tourism efforts and its cultural ties with India.
However, apart from the sites featured on the Sri Ramayan Trails, there are several other places connected with the Ramayana Epic that tourists can visit. For instance, Dolukanda Mountain in the Kurunegala district is considered a holy site for its place in the Ramayana story. It is a popular hiking destination and is fairly accessible by tourists staying at the Heritance Kandalama, a scenic and well-reputed Kandalama hotel popular among visitors.
