Sri Lanka plans to open 24 beach properties on the island in some of the tourism hotspots, an initiative led by the Urban Development, Housing and Coastal Conservation. State Minister Arundika Fernando announced the plan on the 21st of July 2023, and steps have already been taken to expedite this mission. The chosen 24 coastal areas will be given to investors for temporary construction, who will then continue the projects while adhering to coastal protection precautions. Tourists also have an opportunity to visit these new constructions via domestic flights in Sri Lanka through service providers like Cinnamon Air.
Meanwhile, there are more projects underway to enhance tourist experiences in Colombo, Ella, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Some of these are under Urban Development Authority and Asian Development Bank.
