In early 2024, Sri Lanka experienced a surge in Indian tourists, with nearly 200,000 visitors arriving from India. Sri Lanka Tourism ramped up efforts to attract Indian travellers through various initiatives. A key event was a networking cruise on the Ganges in Kolkata on July 10, 2024, where industry leaders and a Sri Lankan delegation, including the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), promoted the country’s diverse attractions.
Representatives from 30 Destination Management Companies, and leading hotels, such as the Avani Kalutara Resort, a well renowned Kalutara resort, and other service providers showcased the quality of Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings. In June 2024, Sri Lanka also conducted B2B roadshows across Indore, Vadodara, and Surat, positioning itself as a year-round destination and highlighting its diverse attractions and the growing tourism sector.
