Sri Lankan tourism industry sees signs of recovery – New programs in place

The beautiful island paradise of Sri Lanka continues to attract tourists despite the major financial crisis the country is facing today. The tourism industry seems to be on its way to recovery even though it is a little slow. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government continues to make plans to help keep the industry running steady.

One such initiative the government has come up with is the Golden Paradise Visa Program where visas are sold to foreigners for $100,000. This visa will permit foreigners to live and work in Sri Lanka for the next 10 years. A 5-year visa is also available for those from overseas who are willing to buy an apartment on the island for $75,000. The program is expected to bring in more foreign income which the country needs. Turyaa Kalutara Hotel and many other Kalutara beach hotels are expecting to see a rise in occupancy as well with short stay travellers.
