Sri Lanka Tourism is determined to reach 2.3 million tourist arrivals and generate $4 billion in revenue in 2024. In May, India led the market with 5,600 tourists, while the Maldives came in with 3,170 visitors and the UK with 1,888 tourists. Despite the seasonal trend of lower arrivals in May, Sri Lanka remains optimistic about its tourism prospects with hotels like Anantara Kalutara Resort and many of the top things to do in Sri Lanka growing more appealing to travellers.
To attract more visitors, Sri Lanka Tourism launched a new global PR and digital campaign in 15 key source markets. Year-to-date data highlights India’s leading role in the market, with 129,183 tourists, accounting for 16% of total arrivals. Russia follows with 108,140 tourists (13%), the UK with 73,880 tourists (9%), Germany with 59,508 tourists (7%), and China with 49,432 tourists (5%). This commitment to market diversification fosters confidence in the future of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
