Sri Lanka’s e-commerce segment records 34% growth – Moving to online trade!

Visa international states that Sri Lanka as a developing country is seeing an exponential growth in the economy as more and more people are opting to shop online and are engaging in e-commerce. On a statement to media by Anthony Watson who is currently the country manager for the Maldives and Sri Lanka – Visa International mentioned that the country has seen a 34% growth for year on year growth as of July 2018. One of the main reasons for the increase in the online transactions in Sri Lanka is the new generation of youths are mainly relying on their ATM cards for the transaction and the habit of carrying cash in their wallets is drastically reducing by the day. Promotional offers discounts on online stores such as Clicknshop is also one of the major reasons for online shopping in Sri Lanka is gaining popularity. As more and more people embrace online purchasing, people tend to do more payments digitally.
