Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is making a strong recovery, with the Central Bank reporting over $1.5 billion in earnings in the first half of 2024, a 78% year-on-year increase. Tourist arrivals reached 1.01 million, up 62% from the same period in 2023.
Despite economic challenges and the impact of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, the sector’s resilience is evident, with tourism earnings surpassing $2 billion in 2023. This year, Sri Lanka launched its first global tourism marketing campaign since 2007, titled “You’ll Come Back for More,” aiming to attract 2.5 million tourists and generate $4 billion in revenue by year-end. Renowned establishments like Heritance Hotels, considered among the best hotels in Sri Lanka, are expected to benefit from this tourism surge, offering visitors premium experiences as the industry continues to flourish.
