Thailand has launched a new digital application and certification scheme designed to raise standards among the country’s street food vendors. The Thai Street Gold Star app, unveiled at a roadshow in Bangkok, allows diners to find certified vendors, explore recommended dishes and get directions to their stalls. Dining in Thailand has long offered a diverse culinary experience, from popular street stalls to luxury restaurants such as Guilty Thailand, and the new platform makes it easier for visitors to discover trusted street food, starting from Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai.
To qualify, vendors must meet criteria in areas such as food hygiene and sanitation, the uniqueness of their dishes, and customer service quality. Certified operators also receive training in business planning, marketing and food safety, as well as opportunities to connect with tourists and customers through roadshows.
Officials state that the scheme supports Thailand’s ambition to strengthen its reputation as a global gastronomy destination while helping improve incomes for small food businesses.
