As reported by the Bangkok Post on 7th May 2022, the Public Health Ministry in Thailand is aiming to classify COVID-19 as an endemic disease on 1st July this year; this was revealed by Sathit Pitutecha, the Thai Deputy Public Health Minister who was speaking about the COVID-19 policy of the government at the Private Hospital Association annual meeting. He further commented that if this happens and depending on an area’s COVID-19 status, current health protocols will be eased including mask-wearing regulations.
Since reopening its international borders, Thailand has eased entry requirements as well and is offering quarantine-free holidays; this includes those who are not only fully vaccinated but even travellers who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated if they can show a negative result of a COVID-19 test taken before arrival. Such tourists can once more travel to popular coastal destinations like Ao Nang; hotels and resorts here such as Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort offer safe stays with stringent health and hygiene protocols in place too.
