Over 3.1 million tourists were flocked to the country in the month of August. This is considered to be a record for the low tourist season. The tourist economy in Bangkok is considered to be South Asia’s second largest. Visitors looking for holiday retreats tend to book a hotel in Khon Kaen or Bangkok instead of exotic holiday destinations in Europe. Tourist inflow in August was 8.66 percent more than the previous year, with the highest percentage of first time visitors being recorded. The establishment of properties such as AVANI Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre could be considered a key reason for the rise in the number of tourists. According to ‘Pongpanu Svetarundra’, the permanent secretary for the Tourism and Sports Ministry; visitors contributed to the production of revenue of $4.93 billion. The number of tourists from East Asia increased by 10 percent as opposed to the year 2016.
