Thailand Sees Tourism Rise as it Promotes Local Experiences – Broadening its Appeal

Showcasing an impressive surge in numbers, the international tourist records in Thailand reached the 30 million mark in 2016, an 8.91% increase over the previous year. While the total revenue from tourism came in at US$ 71.4 billion in 2016, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is predicting a total of 35 million foreign arrivals in 2017, around a five million increase from last year. While popular accommodation options for tourists range from city hotels in Bangkok to Koh Samui 5 star resorts such as the well placed Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, Thailand also offers unique local experiences that TAT is looking to incorporate into its marketing promotions. These experiences which offer travellers a chance to explore other parts of the country will give one an opportunity to interact with locals and learn more about traditional culture too.
