Between the 15th and 19th of February, the 20th edition of The Bay Regatta took place in the waters off Thailand’s southern provinces of Phang Nga, Krabi and Phuket. A large fleet of sailing boats congregated on the water to participate in this milestone event that included sailing along the coasts of these three provinces.
The event organisers commented that even though this was the 20th incarnation of the sailing event, things had not changed all that much, with the exception of boat types and technology and participant demographics. Many participants of this event now come from abroad as opposed to locally, and upon arrival in Thailand, charter sailing boats for use in the event. Also, many more of these sailors now opt to stay at onshore accommodation options such as Anantara Phuket Layan Resort and others, rather than bed down in their boats for the night. No doubt favourable deals by accommodation providers in the area have factored in to these decisions. For example, there’s always many a Phuket hotel promotion around to take advantage of.
