The Maldives Is Now Open to Global Tourists
Tourism amid a Pandemic
The Maldives, a small chain of islands that adorn the Arabian Sea, is now open for travellers from across the globe; in fact, it has been open for tourism since July 15th this year. Although travellers were permitted to enter the country without presenting any health certificate, the recent peak in COVID-19 positive cases has made the government revisit its decisions and tighten its entry requirements. Now, the government has made it compulsory for all tourists to carry a negative PCR test for COVID-19 upon entering the Maldives. Initially, the tourists could only make reservations in only one registered hotel; however, the Ministry of Tourism greenlighted split-stays over many resorts including those that consist of Maldives private villas. These split-stays would be only permitted at properties that meet precautionary guidelines put forward under the country’s HPA split-stay guidelines.
The Maldivian government has initiated certification programmes that ensure the hygiene and safety of all tourism-based facilities such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas.
