A new tourism strategy for the year 2020 was announced by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation. The plan mainly includes paying more attention to niche markets such as MICE, culture and sports tourism, a new angle to view the destination. The country is already known for many a Maldives beach villa and other high-end resort experiences, such as the ones offered by Reethi Faru Resort.
The Maldives aims to achieve this by developing a strategy that centres around cultural tourism – by showcasing Maldivian local life through aspects such as food, performances, heritage sites, and handicrafts. There will also be special events that are held to promote MICE tourism and sports, separately.
