The World’s Most Expensive Coffee is Now Being Produced in Thailand’s Golden Triangle

Known as Black Ivory, the most expensive coffee in the world has its roots in the Golden Triangle of Thailand, which is home to a very important element that is needed for the creation of this coffee variety; elephants! The brainchild of Canadian Blake Dinkin, the process of producing Black Ivory coffee is certainly a fascinating and eco-friendly one. It begins with elephants being fed a diet that includes fruit and Thai Arabica beans. The digestive process of these gentle giants in turn helps to remove the bitterness from the beans before they are deposited along with its dung.

The beans are then handpicked, washed and sundried before being ground by hand. This is followed by a brewing process through a special machine that results in the creation of a rather distinct coffee offering “coffeeholics” a chance to savour something truly unique. While you can enjoy Black Ivory coffee at Chiang Rai hotels such as Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, an added benefit is the fact that you can be happy in the knowledge that 8% of the sale of this coffee is given as a donation to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation.
