Held from 23rd September to 3rd October the famous Vegetarian Festival in Bangkok is an extravagant event that has a Chinese origin. Shops and stalls in Chinatown and all over the city that sell vegetarian delicacies in line with the festival put up red or yellow flags as a way of signalling their participation.
Many travellers who were staying at 5 star hotels in Bangkok such as Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa during the months of September and October had the opportunity to visit and taste scrumptious vegan meals. The festival which was held for nine days did not contain any meat items and visitors also witnessed a Chinese opera in the night which was performed as a way of thanking the Gods. During the day time Chinese people were seen near temples offering candles and incense as a way of observing merit.
