Three New Chinese Airlines to Descend on Chiang Rai Airport – Added Transport Links with China

The local news portal Chiang Rai Times recently revealed, three additional carriers are scheduled to begin operations in Chiang Rai Airport focusing on transporting Chinese tourists to Thailand. Operated by Airports of Thailand Plc, the carriers include Sichuan Airlines (based in Chengdu), NewGen Airways and Loong Air (from Hangzhou). Whether it is a resort, villa or hotel in Chiang Rai, this exotic destination offers international standard accommodation options including Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort. With the increase of aircraft movements up to 18.1%, Chiang Rai authorities noticed a 21.2% increase in the number of passengers within the eight months to May during the fiscal year. The airport is designed to accommodate a passenger capacity of three million and authorities predict an overall annual growth of 30%. Loong Air has scheduled two weekly services between Chiang Rai and Hangzhou while NewGen will offer flights between Zhengzhou and Chiang Rai on 10 charter flights. Passengers flying from Chengdu to Chiang Rai and back can enjoy three weekly flights on Sichuan.
